December plans to a busy month here for the SMF blog . . .
All throughout the Month I'm going to be posting reviews of Christmas & Holiday Films.
Some of these reviews will be done by me, with others done by guess writers including John Squires of "Freddy In Space", Dick Greco of "198Gore", and Eric King of  "RoboCop's Sad Side", Manny of "Mass Grave Pictures", and Shit Movie Fest Party Goers Rory, Chris G., & Kevin G. plan on taking on a film at some point!

Also I will be attending these following events, and I will post a recap for each if the time time permits . . .

25 Of My Favorite Nontraditional X-Mas Tunes . . .

I pretty much always liked Christmas Music, but it's gotten a little harder to like in recent years since B101 starts getting played in my office from mid November to January! I feel like I hear the same 10 songs over and over again, just sang by different artists.  Oh and they also play "Christmas Shoes" once every hour!

PA/NJ Horror Club Meeting (11/17/11)

Last night I attended my second meeting of the PA/NJ Horror Club.
The PA/NJ Horror Club is a Facebook Group ran by Rob Dimension and his Wife Kim . . .
Once a month a meeting takes place where all the group members are invited to gather at Capes & Cowls Comic Book just outside Philly and watch a movie together and have a conversation about said movie afterwards.
I had to miss last month's meeting since I had another obligation on the date it took place ("Season of the Witch"), but I got to say it was very nice nice to have a return visit and talk in person with some of the people I chat with online daily.

HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati Day 2 & 3 (Nov. 12-13 2011)

InCase You Missed Part 1 of this post you can catch up here . . .
 (RECAP FOR DAY 1)

Day 2 of the HorrorHound weekend started off very relaxing compared to some of the recent Cons I attended, since I wasn't working this show there was no urgency to get there early.

The hotel bed was so comfy I stayed in it later then I would if I was home, when Mike awoke we talked about last night and how he ate a massive amount of chilli at some place called SKY something or other . . . We both were in the mood for some grub, but since we didn't have a car it would be a long walk to find anything besides TacoBell. We walked for about a half-hour but ended up grabbing something from the gas station . . . A RedBull and a SlimJim . . . the Breakfast of Champions.

The first awesome thing I spotted that day was the GhostBuster's Ecto1  Car! I seen them loading in it in the night before but to see it in the day time was a sight to behold!

Since I got a late start for the day I got to admit I was very overwhelmed by the Saturday morning/early afternoon Crowd that was already there! I said some quick hellos to some friends and then went back to hotel to chill for a bit. I never been much of a crown/line person and since I got a lot in the night before I didn't feel to bad about taking a small break. Ended up watching most of Inception which was on HBO before I headed back.

Things were still pretty stacked, but I was more in proper mindset for it.
I took some random pictures as I walked around that I'm now going to share . . .
The HorrorHound Wolf guarding Alex Winter

Me, Leslie Vernon, and a Can of PBR . . . Paradise Lost? Found It!

Dr. Tongue from Days of the Dead

I talked to Dick again I seen we both wore the same shirt two days in a row? What were the odds?
We were both hoping to meet C.J. Graham who played "Jason" in Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI
Dick and I both packed our Fright Rags "Jason Lives" shirt, only problem was C.J. didn't show that weekend! It's all good cause we still got a picture of "Jason" any way!

I soon did a quick tour of the vendor room and got some pretty cool stuff  . . .

I picked this Vintage looking Halloween Block Set up for my Mom.

I got another stand fro KneeHighHorror. This time I got a Badass "Demons" mini!

And after hearing rave reviews from Kristy Jett, I picked up "Intruder" on Blu-ray!

How HorrorHound was set up was weird compared to what I am use to at other conventions, instead of just having rooms just for vendors and rooms just for the celebs, most of the rooms were mixed.
It was confusing to keep track of where everything was.

I spotted both Phil Fondacaro Phil Fondacaro and Tom Towles Tom Towles the night before both always had a nice size crowd around them, so when I saw them alone that day I made my move :)

Phil Fondacaro has always been an actor I always always admired, any movie he's in he scene stealer.
When I was younger I had found memories of watching Ghoulies 2 on TV all the time at my Nan's house. we didn't have cable when I was a kid so i caught a lot movies over there when she was babysitting me.
So I got something from that movie signed by him aka "Sir Nigel Penneyweight".

My picture with Phil turned out to be my favorite of the weekend.

Meeting Mr. Tom Towles  was also great, such a kind dude compared to all the creeps he played in the movies!

since I got my "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" dvd signed by Michael Rooker the night before I needed to get "Otis" on there also!

The show was ending for the night, and that called for another Beer with Dick and Mike . . .
                                                                   PBR or Go Home!

Mike and I headed back over to the Hotel to watch the UFC Cain Velasquez/Junior dos Santos fight  before we headed over to WaterPark Party. If you saw the fight you know we made it to the Water Park a lot earlier then we intended.

I wasn't sure if i was going to bother getting in the water that night, but I did bring my swim trunks just incase, after some convincing from Dick and Kristy I rented a locker to go get changed.

I ran into Friday the 13th Part VI  director Tom McLoughlin in my travels and snapped this picture . . .

After getting changed I meet back up with Dick, K.J., and some of there friends. I had a blast floating in the Lazy River, riding the slides, drinking Spiced Rum straight from the bottle. Highlight of the night was the Creepy guy dressed like GhostFace from Scream peeping on everyone in the Outside Hot Tub.
Most of the stories from The WaterPark Party are the ultimate you had to be there type stories, so I won't go any more into it, but want to thanks Dick and Kristy once again for letting me hang with all the Cool Kids, and it was nice meeting you Jessie, Kate, and Kat :)

We got kick out of the park around 1am, so I made my way back to the room and must have crashed right away.

Day 3 I didn't really bother to do to much, I got the "Blood Diner" shirt off of Fright Rags I been wanting.

And even better a picture with the Queen of Sass Herself Kristy Jett!

Two prints off of Chris Ott . . .

And from Nathan Milliner I got this "Taryn" Dream Warriors print.

The final celeb I meet for the weekend was Robert Rusler of Weird Science and Nightmare On Elm Street 2 Fame.

After the show me, Mike, Dick, Chris Ott, Neil, Jessie, and Kate all had dinner at the Hotel Bar.
We were there for a good while, hung out with some of the celebrities who stuck around the extra night.
Like Noah Hathaway aka "Atreyu" from the Never Ending Story!
I actually said "I cried when your Horse died" to him lol

And that was it, the end of another great weekend with my "Horror Family" New and Old.

Till Next Time My Friends :)

HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati Day 1 (11/11/11)

If you asked me what Cities were on the top of my list to travel to some day I may say London, Paris and definitely Austin,TX . . .
But where does Cincinnati (In November nonetheless) rank on my lists of possible tourist destinations? Well before HorrorHound Weekend let's just say it wasn't very high!

A few weeks ago after doing Rock and Shock with Mike Smash, he asked me if I would be interested in going to HorrorHound Cincinnati with him? Since the Vendor Tables were long Sold out, we would be going to not work/sell shit but to visit our Horror Community Friends, meet some Celebrity Guest and do some Networking.

I meet up with Mike early Friday morning, usually when we go to these conventions we drive, but since it would work out to be a 9 hour drive we opted to Fly and save about 7 hours and it was roughly the same amount on plane tickets then what we would have spent on gas money driving.

It's been a couple years since I sat been to Philly's Airport, was a lot of improvements, the place use to just be a Concrete-Nightmare.  Major kudos on their renovations!

After a surprisely fast security check we took a shuttle bus to the Gate F/ Section 24 and and we had some time to kill before we could abroad our plane at 10:30am . We noticed something was up when it was 11am and our plane wasn't even outside yet . . . The flight attendants filled us in on what the delay was . . . Vice President Joe Biden was coming to Town and all the Runways were on lockdown till he arrived :|

After awhile a place came to our gate and the lady on the speaker said "Now boarding for Detroit" Wait what what? Were in the wrong section along! We read the screen right, so we have no clue when #24 was changed from Cincinnati to Detroit but it was and we had to run FAST if when wanted to make it where our plane was now located. Because of all the delays we luckily we didn't missed it but we were cutting it very close.  Man we would have been fucked so hard if that was the case.

Our plane was pretty small, only about 40 people on it all together counting flight and crew.  The aisle were extra tight and because it caused Mike to spill this one Lady's cranberry and vodka on her lap and her very fashionable jacket when he got up to use the bathroom . . .
Needless to say things stated getting awkward but she was totally cool to us after a little bit.
This is the kind of jacket the vodka and cranberry Lady was wearing!

The airport we touched down in wasn't in Ohio like we thought it would be, but in Kentucky! Oh and it made the Airport on the TV Show "WINGS" look big in comparison lol.
Grabbing my bags and and walking to the street kinda reminded me of the scene in Midnight Express for some reason.

Since were in Kentucky and not Ohio we were actually quite far from the Hotel we were staying at for the weekend, the Taxi cost $60 to get there flat rate which really seamed like highway robbery . ..
We got to the Livein Hotel around 3pm, already i could tell this was going to be a nicer place then our Rock and Shock Weekend where we stayed for at the EconoLodge (Aka Home of the Period Blood Bed).
After checking in we ran into a guy from Canada who was trying to unload a  Gold Ticket Pass since his buddy didn't make the trip down. I ended up getting the gold pass off him for a cheaper rate . . .
Besides having  access to the show all weekend, you got the The HorrorHound Cincinnati Shirt, A Copy of the Special Edition HorrorHound, and a Free Pass to get into the WaterPark Party that was taking place Saturday Night! And yes incase you were wondering he said "eh?" a lot in our very quick conversation!

Mike and I made our way over to the show, I pick up my extras that came with Gold pass, talked to my Good Friends Dick Greco and Kristy Jett of Fright-Rags for the first of many conversations of that weekend!
I swear Dick and I don't go over what shirts we are going to wear at these Cons, least not yet anyway lol!

and also made my first convention buy . . . A "Return of the Living Dead 3" stand from KneeHighHorror!
She's to Die For!

Since we really didn't eat much that day Mike and I decided to hit up the Taco Bell up the road before we settle in at HorrorHound.
On the way back from eating some Tacos we stopped at the Beer Distributor to grab some beer to store in our room's mini fridge, I also got what was one of my stupider purchases of the weekend
"Busted" featuring nothing but MugShots of people from the Ohio and Kentucky Area. It was only $1 so I had to buy it!

When we got back at the con I figured since it was still early in would be a good idea to get some of the signatures I planed to get out of the way.
One of the Main Stars I wanted to meet that weekend was John Saxon. The Nightmare on Elm Street series has always held a special place in my heart, with part 3 being my favorite.
Meeting Mr. Saxon was awesome, he had a little bit of a line so I didn't get to talk to him long but I would speak to him later that night with Mike and it was much more memorable.

And got him to sign this poster by Chris Ott . . .
I already have Robert Englund and Amanda Wyss' autograph on it, going to keep in the tube till March's Monster Mania in hopes of Heather Langenkamp or Jsu Garcia, then get it professionally framed.

After my Saxon meeting I went over to Kane to get this K.H.H. Stand of Friday the 13t Part 8 signed . . .

I'm seeing the movie in New York this weekend (11/18) but I didn't feel like bringing it on the trip with me.Kane is a nice guy, he liked the fact that I was wearing a Hatchet Shirt (Get it at Fright Rags), and talked about how he looked forward to seeing Jason 8 the next weekend, but when when he did his
signature "choke" move I thought I was dying! I still had handprint marks on me all weekend!

I didn't buy to many movies this weekend but did get a lot of awesome Art Prints . . .
Like this Dick Miller as "Uncle Willy" from Demon Knight . . .

The art was done by Joel Robison and can be picked up here http://www.artpusher.net/home.php

I called Mike to see what he was up to and he was talking to John Saxon, so I made my way over to his table again. This time time there was no line and we got to talk to John about living in LA and some of his past movies. I mentioned "Invasion of the Flesh Hunters " as being a really good movie and he said "I wouldn't go that far!" But it is John, It is!

Since the line for Michael Rooker was the shortest it was all night, I went and waited in it. I seen Dick G. in the area so I asked if would taking the picture for me since he knows what the heck he's doing.
Meeting Michael was an amazing experience. I always been a big fan of his diverse body of work . . . Everything from Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer to MallRats to Slither!
I told him about I just saw Henry at Exhumed Films  a couple weeks before hand and how it chased a good amount of people out of the theatre. He got a good kick out of that!

Since the night was winding down I got one more sig that I wanted and made one of my bigger buys of the weekend . . .

So the last actor I meet for the night was James Duval! (Frank the Bunny in Donnie Darko, and also in so many other good movies such as May, ID4, NoWhere, etc)
He might be the nicest celebrity I ever meet! So down to earth and just has overall good vibes about him.

- To Tom "Why are you wearing that stupid Man Suite?" He even put the "28:06:41:12" at the bottom! :)

And this was one of my bigger purchases of the weekend . . .
It's a clay model of the infamous dick cutting in the bathtub scene in "I Spit On Your Grave"
                                                    Done by http://www.clayguy.com/
He had a great setup at the show but that was the best one imo.

I always wanted to get something off of him and glad I finally made the plunge!

End of the Night Beers with friends New and Old!

The show was now over for the night, I hung out with Mike and some of his friends but wasn't really feeling the bar that night so I called it a night early. I never really hang out to late at the Cons on Friday Night cause Saturday's when all the Really FUN Happens!
Well that's it for Part 1 of this recap, hope you enjoyed reading it so far.

Shit Movie Fest Presents: Tales From The Shit (11/06/11)

Yesterday afternoon was our monthly Shit Movie Fest party and maybe our most ambitious event to date . . .
The theme for this month's gathering was "Horror Anthologies" and to play up on the anthology aspect we had 4 TVs throughout the house with each of them playing a different movie.

Mike Smash hosted this event at his house which has now been dubbed the "Smashion" by Chris Fear!

If you never been to the Smashion it has a huge Basement/Workshop that Mike uses to make his Custom Figures and Mirrors, oh and also there is about 5000 Movies down there in some kinda of order on a homemade DVD Shelf . . .

The event started sometime around 1pm, we had Five Main Films we were going to feature in the Living Room (Trick 'r Treat, The Basement, From A Whisper To A Scream, Nightmares, and Tales From The Hood), but Mike and I also took every Anthology movie we could find off the shelves, so that we would have enough movies to play on the TV in the Kitchen and the two down in the Warehouse.
("Trilogy of Terror", George Romero's "Deadtime Stories", "Horror Hospital", "Twilight Zone: The Movie", "Creepshow 2", "Tales From The Darkside: The Movie", "Body Bags", "The Uncanny", "Tales That Witness Madness", "Dead of Night", and "Fright Show" all played at some point during the day.)
CreepShow 2 playing in the Kitchen!

"Fright Show" was brought to the party by 1st Time Shit Movie Fest attendee George of the
  VHS Preservation Society.

I been grabbing movie off him and his brother Sean for a couple years now, and it was a real joy to hang out with him outside of the convention grounds. Very knowledgeable guy and fit right in with the rest of the group.

Two of my best friends Chris and his fiancĂ©  were next to arrive on the scene, both Chris and I been really busy since the last SMF, so this was my first time seeing him in over a month.
Chris Fear got there soon after and he was followed by K.G. who's hosting January's Event (more details to follow soon) and his girl Falon. Other Shit Movie Regulars Trov, Stu, and K.C.H. made it in the next hour or so. But since a good amount of people were there now, Mike put on the chinese food he made on and we ate some before watching the first main feature of the day Trick r' Treat . . .
Warner Brothers really dropped the ball when releasing this one, cause surprisingly most of the people watching the movie have neither seen it or heard of it and afterward were shocked to hear it was a "Straight To DVD" release. Hopefully if a sequel ever does get made, it will be a wide theatrical release!.

Our dinner was now ready so we headed back into the kitchen and enjoyed some good eats. After that we headed back into the living room . . .

Mike and I hit a snag earlier in the day when trying to find his copy of "Tales From The Hood", so the movie I wanted to play when biggest crowd was around played a little ahead ahead of schedule . . .
The Basement is a long lost movie shot on Super 8 back in the late 80s. There are parts of the movie that are pretty stupid and unintentionally funny, but with maybe a bigger budget or lighting this movie could have been a big hit!
The gore, effects, and makeup in this movie is surprisingly top notch for having such a low budget, only problem you really can't see shit cause 80% of the movie is shot in the dark.
Recently put this out and it comes with the Movie on both VHS and DVD, plus it also includes "Video Violence" , "Video Violence 2", and "Cannibal Campout"
It can be purchased ( HERE )

Another SMF 1st Timer was Kevin of House of Mysterious Secrets, he came in half way threw the Basement and was really in disbelief on what he walked in on.
After "The Basement"was over, Chris, Kevin, and I had a good discussion about what the worse Friday the 13th Sequel is, I say it's a toss up between 5 & 9, where 5 happens to be Kevin's favorite.
Chris and I both agreed he made some good points so we are going to all sit down and watch it again some day lol

There was an Eric Forman/Kelsolike circle going on downstairs, so we all hung down there for a while This weird movie with Elvira and Jack Palance  was playing . . .

The last movie to play in the living room was "Nightmares" from 1983. This was an interesting mess of a movie.

"The Bishop of Battle" staring Emilio Estevez was Pure 80s Cheese! There were 3 other stories featuring great veteran actors such as Richard Masur, Lance Henriksen, and Veronica Cartwright . . . but the stories were very run of the mill I couldn't wait to it was over :(

Cause of the South Works concert we all went to the night before and the Daylight Saving Time just happening that morning we wrapped things up a little earlier then usual for a Shit Movie Fest.
But because of the nature of the event we fit 3x more movie then we usually do lol.

Thanks to everyone that came out yesterday, thanks for bringing all the beer & food with you and Major Props to Mike for Hosting!

News on the upcoming December show will be up very shortly . . .

Oh and one last thing before I end this post, this was my favorite picture I took of the day . . .
